$21 Million and Growing!
January 21, 2018
The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region surpassed a benchmark goal! As of January 1st, the foundation manages charitable funds over $21 Million – permanently invested for the good of our region.
Like other community foundations around the country and around the world, The Community Foundation was established in 1997 to convene the financial resources or individuals, families and businesses. The goal - to create permanent charitable assets for our local community and beyond.
Over the years, founding board members and those who have followed them have envisioned ways the foundation could grow in asset size and in impact. When the foundation would cross the $20 million threshold has been a perennial question. In 2016, while planning for The Community Foundation's 20th anniversary, board members and staff began to speculate whether $20 million in charitable assets was attainable in 2017. Indeed it was, and more!
The Community Foundation grows as generous individuals, families and businesses partner to create or invest in named charitable funds within the foundation. Over the years, as more people learn about the foundation and make charitable giving plans, new funds are added and existing funds are enlarged. The 2017 calendar year was exceptional with $1 million in new gifts received in December alone!
Thank you to each local individual, family, business and organization who has established a fund at The Community Foundation over the last 20 years.
Everyone can join the community of donors that make our region exemplary. By giving through the foundation's own Community Fund, establishing your own fund or planning a bequest, anyone can take action in support of our beloved community.
