Share Our Selves Fund Supports Growth at Recovery in Motion
August 29, 2017
Over the last several years the Share Our Selves Fund has focused charitable giving efforts on Recovery in Motion, a local non-profit that started in 2013.
An anonymous donor has offered matching grants that doubled the funding Recovery in Motion gathered in recent fundraising campaigns. This funding has been significant as the organization has grown in capacity, most recently hiring a new Executive Director.
Recovery in Motion recently shared a success story with us: A client's life was disrupted by anxiety and panic disorder. After attending support groups at Recovery in Motion she forged new relationships with other group members. She felt so strongly about her time in these therapeutic groups that she volunteers to help the organization on a regular basis. She has also enrolled in Peer Recovery Specialist certification training and, once complete, she'll have the ability to further give back by being a group facilitator herself.
Recovery in Motion's mission is to provide free resources for and by individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders who choose to share in their mutual recovery. The grassroots organization began as a small group of people looking for a way to stay connected with each other after completing a local mental health wellness workshop. The organization offers free support groups facilitated by Certified Peer Recovery Specialists. Group members need not diclose any formal diagnosis in order to attend. Other services include Wellness Recovery Action Planning workshops, socializing opportunities, yoga and meditation and referrals to other local resources.
