Developers Build Students, Too! - Governors Row Fund for Teachers and Students
August 1, 2017
Over the years, several local developers have chosen to enhance the communities they create by taking action to support strong public schools.
When the Fawn Lake Golf Community was built in Spotsylvania, a portion of the proceeds from each lot sold was given to The Trust for Public Education, a competetive grant fund for students and educators in Spostylvania County Public Schools. Read more here.
The Haven Make a Difference Fund began in 2011 when Johnson Development Associates built The Haven at Celebrate Virginia II. Read more here.
Most recently, when W. W. Webb & Associates created the townhouses at Governor's Row, The Governors Row Fund for Teachers and Students was established.
Like the funds that came before it, proceeds from properties sold at Governor's Row have been permanently endowed in a charitable fund designated for the benefit of local school children. The Community Foundation invests the charitable funds and desitributes a portion of the proceeds in the form of grants. The corpus of the fund remains intact with a goal to grow over time, benefitting more and more students.
Each year, educators from the designated school systems may apply for grants to enrich their students lives. Grant timelines can be found here. For the 2017/2018 school year, grants are being accepted now with a deadline of August 21st.
