Environmental Studies Grant Gives GCC Students Real World Experience
July 10, 2018
The Marstel-Day Community Conservation Enhancement Fund of The Community Foundation provided the means for Environmental Science students at Germanna Community College to visit environmental sites in the field.
Two classes studying energy visited the Lake Anna Nuclear Power Plant Visitor’s Center. This Center houses displays on all types of energy sources with an emphasis on nuclear power. The Center also provided a lecturer who led the students through the exhibits and who described how the nuclear plant works.
The grant provided a real-time, out of classroom experience for the students at a facility that otherwise they would only see in a book, video, or PowerPoint. It also allowed the students to meet with an experienced energy expert at the energy producing site.
