New Socially Responsible Investment Fund at the Foundation
February 13, 2018
At The Community Foundation, we are excited to announce new dedicated Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) strategies for donors.
In 2017, when Downtown Greens’ board of directors placed their garden properties in an easement, they were determined to use resulting capital in a way that would complement their mission and honor their organization’s values.
Founded in 1995, Downtown Greens is a downtown Fredericksburg nonprofit that promotes environmental care by preserving two urban garden areas. The organization uses sustainable gardening methods, teaches children through a weekly Garden Club and Youth Farm Project, and raises bees with their Urban Bees program.
Having long sought the right opportunity to intoduce SRI funds and eager to assist the organization, The Community Foundation sought advice from Josh Cooper of Cooper Financial Group/Raymond James. Specifically, the foundation wanted an investment option that ensured meaningful corporate responsibility measures without compromising financial returns.
One of the cornerstones of The Community Foundation is our dedication to donor intent. We are here to honor each donor’s wishes – now and for generations to come. The Community Foundation is the ideal partner to manage any donor’s charitable funds and maximize their impact in the community.
Many people want to know that the impact of their local charitable giving goals also align with their charitable fund investment portfolio.
Working with Cooper, The Community Foundation found the right solution for The Fund for Downtown Greens Community Greenspace. Investment analysts have created a portfolio that considers factors like leadership in sustainability issues, environmental and water management, and board diversity, while identifying opportunities and avoiding risks.
The Community Foundation is optimistic about the impact this kind of investment can have globally. We look forward to including more donors in our SRI investment pool. Meanwhile our board and staff continue to work locally to ensure each donors’ charitable funds are distributed in ways that are efficient, effective and essential.
