The Community Foundation Pivots from The Community Give to 20th Anniversary Celebration
July 2, 2016
The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region is sounding the fanfare in advance of a year-long anniversary celebration of generous local donors and the hard-working nonprofit organizations they support. With over $17 million in assets and 125 charitable funds, the foundation is embarking on its 20th year advancing local philanthropy.
The foundation helps the area’s most caring citizens make a charitable impact, benefiting our community now and for generations to come. Examples include 41 scholarship funds for local high school seniors, a Youth in Philanthropy leadership program, and a Women and Girls Fund that involves female philanthropists in grants that benefit area women and girls.
Another notable initiative is The Community Give – a powerful 24-hour online day of giving event that rallies hundreds of nonprofits and thousands of donors and sponsors, ultimately delivering $2.5 million in unrestricted revenue over its first 3 years.
Having achieved several milestones with The Community Give, and with the 20th anniversary highpoint in mind, the foundation’s Board of Governors has chosen to suspend the online giving event during 2017 so that staff can devote the necessary time and resources to make the anniversary observance extraordinary.
The Community Foundation has invested deeply in nonprofit capacity-building over the last three years through training and technical support, so it is anticipated that local nonprofits will be participating in one of the similar available events, such as Giving Tuesday, held nationally.
“We have accomplished the goals we set out to achieve, culminating in the biggest giving day in local history,” said Executive Director Teri McNally, referring to the more than 9,600 gifts totaling more than $1.12 million given during The Community Give on May 3rd.
“We believe our local nonprofit community will continue to inspire giving throughout the region and are confident in their capability to build upon their Community Give donor base using the skills, resources and tools developed over three years of Community Foundation training and technical support,” McNally said. “We look forward to our continuing philanthropic partnerships in the future. We are excited to watch your organizations continue to grow over the coming years.”
The Community Foundation plans to celebrate its anniversary in a variety of ways over the next year. Plans include surprises that recognize and honor local nonprofits while recounting the foundation’s history of serving our region.
The Community Foundation builds and strengthens relationships among local nonprofit organizations, caring citizens and community-minded companies. If donors are looking for an immediate opportunity to put the power of collaborative philanthropy to work, gifts can be made online to The Community Enrichment Fund of The Community Foundation. Like The Community Give, the foundation makes grants to nonprofits using this fund to address our community’s most pressing needs and promising opportunities.
The foundation invites the community to monitor the cfrrr.org website and other news sources for further announcements about how you can join in the 20th Anniversary celebration activities!
