Be Part Of It! On May 6th, The Community Foundation will be hosting the region’s first-ever giving day. Our goal is to empower area nonprofits (like you!) to collect record-level donations, online, in a 24-hour period. To help make that happen, we will give away $100,000 in cash prizes to nonprofits in contests throughout the day.
Imagine it! Thousands of donations in just one day for the causes and issues most important to our region!
There are over 110 area nonprofits formally registered for The Community Give!

What is the Community Give?
The Community Give is a 24-hour day of giving on Tuesday May 6, 2014 from 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. It is a day when everyone in our region is asked to make a donation and show support for the local nonprofit organizations that positively impact our lives.
The Community Foundation will be driving traffic to our giving day website using every marketing/outreach/media opportunity available to us. Donors will choose the issue or organization most important to them and make a secure online donation.
The Community Foundation and several of our leading donors have together contributed $100,000 in cash prizes for participating nonprofits as a way to build excitement and maximize the benefits for donors and nonprofits.
What is the Goal?
Oh nothing big - we just want to make history! Together we have the power to raise thousands of dollars – the most raised in a single day – and make a significant impact on the future of the Rappahannock River region.
What are the Objectives?
This community-wide giving challenge will:
Unite and celebrate the Rappahannock River region!
Inspire giving and increase nonprofit revenues.
Raise awareness of current needs and charitable opportunities in our community.
Build and strengthen relationships among local nonprofit organizations and caring citizens.
Increase the capacity of local nonprofits to engage constituents and generate revenue.
Inspire donors of all kinds to support the causes that mean the most to them.
What is the Excitement?
Every participating area nonprofit will be eligible for prizes given by The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River region and our sponsors:
The maximum amount of every dollar raised goes directly to local nonprofit organizations and keeps our community thriving. And there are bonus contests throughout the day! Random drawings every hour and cash prizes throughout the day - $100,000 all together! - mean that participating nonprofits can raise even more money to support their missions. Please consult our Prize Rules for more information.
What Do Nonprofits Need to Do?
The Community Give is about raising money for the great work you do. Successful nonprofits will set a realistic fundraising goal and then energize and mobilize their supporters to give to them on that day.
Not sure how to do it? We will be sending you a playbook and providing technical support to help you build your strategy. It will be filled with tactics you can use to succeed.
Think you're too small to participate? We've set up special incentives that reward even small organizations.
If we work together, we can all win on May 6th!
Nonprofits value giving day events because they:
Create a new source of revenue and increase the bottom line.
Excite and engage supporters.
Introduce new audiences to their mission and vision.
Challenge nonprofits to communicate in new and better ways, such as through social media.
Build collaborative relationships through event planning and training.
