The Community Foundation makes it easy for developer to create lasting gift for city schools
Fredericksburg school teachers who want to implement new programs in their classroom have a new source of financial support through The Community Foundation. The Haven Make a Difference Fund was established in 2012 by Johnson Development Associates, the South Caroline Developer building The Haven apartments at Celebrate Virginia South. As a gift to the community, Johnson Development established a $250,000 charitable fund at the foundation.
Each year a portion of the fund will provide grants to innovative Fredericksburg public school educators who submit promising plans for projects that enrich students’ educational experience.
Local developer and Celebrate Virginia South landowner Silver Companies facilitated the donation.
“The Community Foundation helped them create a fund to reflect their goals; they made it easy to make a difference,” said Jud Honaker, President of Silver Companies Commercial. “Silver Companies has a history of philanthropy in this region and we were pleased to partner with another company who wanted to make sure their development would enhance the city’s quality of life.”
The Haven Make a Difference Fund will support programs that create clear, meaningful and lasting benefits for city school students. For the current grant cycle, the foundation encourages programs that address:
Drop-out prevention, particularly early intervention
Community-building, to benefit students and teachers
Development of professional learning opportunities
