disAbility Resource Center - YOUTH COMMUNITY ACTION CONFERENCE

Grant Requested Amount- $1,000

Purpose: To provide self advocacy and systems change training for youth with disabilities in the Rappahannock Area. The purpose of the project is to provide training materials and workbooks for members of the YouLead Youth Community Action Specialists.  The goal is to replicate the group in individual high schools.  The primary activity will be weekly meetings for transition aged youth with disabilities.

 

American Red Cross: CHANGE FOR MEASLES PROJECT

Grant requested Amount: $850.00

Purpose: The purpose of the project is to raise funds for the Measles Initiative, thereby saying lives, while raising awareness of the devastating effects of measles and inspiring youth to serve the community. This will be accomplished through a spare change drive at area schools.

 

Best Buddies Virginia: BEST BUDDIES-- UNIVERSITY OF MARY WASHINGTON

Grant requested Amount: $1,000.00

Purpose: The project pairs college students from the University with people with intellectual disabilities in one – to – one friendship. In the past, individuals with intellectual disabilities have not had the opportunity to have friends outside their own, often isolated environment. By becoming a “College Buddy”, student volunteers offer a Buddy the chance to explore life in a new way. The ARC of Rappahannock is their long-term partner.

 

 Bragg Hill Family Life Center: HAPPY TO BE ME

Grant requested Amount: $1,000.00

Purpose: The program has been designed to give youth an opportunity to express themselves and learn about health, nutrition and exercise through their fitness and wellness center.


Christian Youth Theater( CYT):
PROVIDING LIVE THEATER FOR BRAGG HILL FAMILY LIFE CENTER

Grant requested Amount: $880.00

Purpose: CYT is dedicated o developing character in children and adults through training I the arts and by producing wholesome family entertainment, all of which reflect Judeo-Christian values. They will provide live theater experience for 60 people from the Bragg Hill Family Life Center. They will also provide transportation, snacks, souvenirs and 2 scholarships.

 

 Fredericksburg Counseling Services: SELF SUFFICIENCY FOR THE HOMELESS

Grant requested Amount: $00.00

Purpose: To provide services to area homeless (still living on the street) is to provide training in self-care, self sufficiency, and options available to clients who choose to remain on the streets. The program will demonstrate support for the homeless, pointing out the importance of addressing the most basic needs (awareness of mental illness, stress reduction, personal safety)

 

 Rappahannock EMS: RED E. FOX 911 FOR KIDS

Grant requested Amount: $120.00

Purpose: To educate young children in the 6-7 year age group on the proper use of the 911 system. This program teaches when to call 911 and what to say once they reach the 911 dispatcher.

  

RCASA (Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault) TEENS AGAINST SEXUAL ASSAULT

Grant requested Amount: $1,000.00

The project will outreach to rural high school students to take action against sexual violence in their community. The program will address the barriers inherent in a rural location, such as fewer resources available, greater physical isolation and distrust of outside agencies. Sexual assault victims in rural locations such as King George, Caroline and the rural tracts of Stafford and Spotsylvania have limited access to advocacy support and are likely to have little information about dating and sexual violence. The project will use a “ train the trainer” approach to design topics on items such as – ID indicators of sexual violence

YoungLives- CRISIS PREVENTION COUNSELORS AND DINNERS PROVIDED FOR PREGNANT AND PARENTING TEEN MOTHERS AT YOUNGLIVES CLUBS

Grant request: $1000.00

The monthly meetings offer to teen moms an opportunity to develop relationships with other teen moms and share their similar experiences, and to also spend time with adult women mentors. With this project they intend to devote the first thirty minutes of every club to a crisis prevention counselor with will offer information and resources to members.
