PROGRAM TITLE: Program for Teen Parents
AMOUNT AWARDED: $800.00
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM:
This program provides services to expectant teenagers, their partners and/or supportive guardian, and those teens who have already become parents.  PTP provides pre-natal educational classes, parenting educational support group, Lamaze classes, and child CPR/First Aid.  PTP also promotes volunteer and leadership opportunities for current participants to give back to their community through service.

AGENCY NAME: Salvation Army
PROGRAM TITLE: Salvation Army Music Program
AMOUNT AWARDED: $997.50
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: The Salvation Army Music Program is an alternative after school activity for the economically disadvantaged youth of the Fredericksburg area.  They are expanding the program from one ten-week session to two ten-week sessions.  They teach music to youth ages 6-18, teaching them to work as a team, responsibility, and give them the tools and positive influences to better succeed in school and the community.

AGENCY NAME: Friend of the Rappahannock (FOR)
PROGRAM TITLE: Family Interpretive Trips
AMOUNT AWARDED: $880.00
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM:
FOR holds a series of hikes and canoe floats throughout the year to involve citizens in meaningful river experiences.  The interpretive trips are one of the tools they use to engage the public in protecting the river.  By getting all ages on the river they can help foster a community sense for respect and ownership of the Rappahannock.

AGENCY NAME: Development in Practice
PROGRAM TITLE: La Ceiba Microfinance Initiative
AMOUNT AWARDED: $1,000
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: The La Ceiba Microfinance Initiative gives small loans to women living in poverty in Honduras to start businesses. Throughout the world, microloans provide people without resources a chance to build a life.


AGENCY NAME: Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center
PROGRAM TITLE: Anatomically Correct Dolls and Supporting Books and Tapes for the Safe Harbor CAC.
AMOUNT AWARDED: $2,271.10
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: Safe Harbor is a Child Advocacy Center in Fredericksburg.  CACs are designed to obtain vital information from children about their abuse and conduct sexual abuse exams in an environment appropriate for children.  The anatomically correct dolls are used by authorities during the interview process.  These tools help children communicate their experiences to the authorities and help the authorities prosecute the abusers.

AGENCY NAME: Hospice Support Care
PROGRAM TITLE: Gussies Club Project
AMOUNT AWARDED: $1,000
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: The children’s group (ages 5-18) will involve a variety of divisions and activities that relate to grief and helpful ways to learn to adapt to the loss of a loved one. Therapy dog teams have been integrated into the process to lessen anxiety.  Hospice Support Care also has a “Kids Helping Kids and Teens Helping Teens” program.

AGENCY NAME: Caroline 4H Club
PROGRAM TITLE: After school program to move youth in a positive direction.
AMOUNT AWARDED: $550.00
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: The program will provide a safe, positive, and healthy after school alternative for at risk youth interested in step dancing.  The teens will be involved in a group focused on having fun and competing.  Exercise, self confidence, and presentation skills are also emphasized.
