The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region (CFRRR) is pleased to have recently awarded almost $25,000 in academic scholarships to 27 outstanding area high school students. The awards were given from Foundation funds created by area citizens to memorialize or to honor family members, friends and colleagues. The Community Foundation is a 10 year-old public foundation that builds endowed charitable funds to give to the community in the form of charitable grants.
The Mary E. Berger Scholarship was awarded to Ryan A. Stones, Mountain View High School. Mr. Stones plans to study Music and Trumpet Performance at Gettysburg College
The Baron P. “Deuce” Braswell II Memorial Scholarship was awarded to four area students: Teresa E. Elliott and Conor S. Jones of Chancellor High School; Eric T. Leddon of Fredericksburg Christian School and Sara T. Lasker of Riverbend High School. Miss Elliott plans to study Athletic Training and Physical Therapy at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Jones palns to sturdy Business at the University of Virginia, Mr. Leddon plans to study Communications at Christopher Newport University and Miss Lasker plans to study Mathematics and Secodary Education at the College of William and Mary.
The Brian Conner Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Sara T. Lasker, Riverbend High School. Miss Lasker plans to study Mathematics and Secondary Education at the College of William & Mary
The Christine and Will Dickinson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Shannon A. Swank, Chancellor High School. Miss Swank plans to study Animal Poultry Sciences at Virginia Tech
The Molly Gill Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Justin Graves, Stafford High School. Mr. Graves plans to study Urban Affairs at Virginia Tech
The Jeremy Daniel Hawley Memorial Scholarship was awarded to David White, King George High School and Edward Dobyns, Fredericksburg Christian High School. Mr. White plans to study Computer Engineering at Virginia State University
The Peter D. Johnson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Mary Cooper, Mountain View High School. Miss Cooper plans to study Psychology at George Mason University.
The James Monroe High School 1992 Girls Athletic Scholarship was awarded to JMHS graduate Kelsey Gillenwater. Miss Gillenwater plans to study Political Science at Roanoke College
The Brandon Thomas Lawn Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Austin J. Bopp, Stafford High School. Mr. Bopp plans to study in the field of medicine at Christopher Newport University
The Bill Lontz Science Scholarship was awarded to James Monroe High School graduate Margaret E. John. Miss John plans to study Geologic and Environmental Sciences at University of Virginia
The Betty Merrill Scholarship for Excellence in Latin was awarded to Rebecca Jane Kutzer-Rice, James Monroe High School. Miss Kutzer-Rice plans to study English Literature and Creative Writing at Columbia University
The Paul E. Neri Memorial Scholarship was awarded to James Monroe High School graduate William R. Browning. Mr. Browning plans to study Business Administration at the University of Virginia at Wise
The Kay Orr Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Stafford High School graduate William A. Smith. Mr. Smith plans to study in the medical field at Virginia Commonwealth University.
The Horace A. Revercomb Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Katherine M. James, King George High School. Miss James plans to study English and Music at the College of William & Mary.
The Chris Ross Memorial Scholarship was granted to Spotsylvania High School graduates Olivia Sullivan and Stephen Jackson. Mr. Jackson plans to study Engineering at Bridgewater College and Miss Sullivan will attend Germanna Community College
The George A. and Lucy Mae Scott Scholarship was awarded to James Monroe High School graduates Jasmine Hines and Margaret E. John. Miss Hines plans to study in the medical field at Temple University and Miss John plans to study Geologic and Environmental Sciences at University of Virginia
The Sophia Silva Scholarship was awarded to Mountain View High School graduate Stephanie M. Higgins. Miss Higgins will attend the College of William & Mary and study International and Global Studies.
The Steven Snyder Memorial Scholarship was awarded to North Stafford High School graduate Nicholas R. Conklin. Mr. Conklin will attend Long Island University and Colonial Forge High School graduate David S. Schweer. Mr. Schweer will attend Virginia Commonwealth University where he plans to study medicine.
The Crittenden R. Sullivan, Jr., Memorial Scholarship was awarded to James Monroe High School graduate William R. Browning. Mr. Browning plans to study Business Administration and Education at University of Virginia at Wise
The Georgia Willis Caroline High School Scholarship was awarded to Lisa Carter. Miss. Carter plans to study Theatre Arts and Film Studies at University of Mary Washington
