FY21 Annual Appeal
A message from Michele Mansouri, President of the Board of Governors
I left West Virginia over 20 years ago, never really thinking anywhere else could feel like home. I am thankful to call our region my second home and a place I am proud to have raised my children. With all the beauty, history and charm of our area, there are still significant needs among many. I am grateful to belong to a community that consistently rises to the occasion to meet those needs.
We each have our own reasons we choose to be philanthropic and serve our community. Over the past few years, I have shared my family’s story and the important role philanthropy has played in my life. You may already know about the involvement my parents and grandparents had in my hometown and my desire to follow in their footsteps. Like me, maybe it is simply a part of your upbringing and you are proud to carry on the tradition of giving and service. For some, it could be a part of your faith and for others maybe it is quite simply the wonderful feeling we receive from helping a friend or neighbor in need.
No matter what your reason, the one thing I believe we all have in common is that we want our gift, whether monetary or of service, to be most impactful. We all want to know that our donations are used wisely and the organizations we support hold themselves to the highest standards. I know if The Community Foundation has approved an organization to receive a gift, they have gone through a rigorous vetting process.
I also appreciate and recognize that The Community Foundation serves as the preeminent facilitator of philanthropy in our region. This means even lesser-known organizations doing remarkable work can be assisted in their missions. They can harness the reputation and philanthropic strength of the foundation to have a greater impact than they could accomplish alone.
Whether you are passionate about issues facing women and girls in our region, food insecurity, education, youth programs or animal shelters, The Community Foundation knows exactly who and how you can help. If you want to learn how to give anonymously or strategies to get your family, friends and neighbors involved, The Community Foundation can help with that too.
The Community Foundation believes philanthropy should be accessible and sustainable.
Will you join me in making an investment in our community’s future by supporting The Community Foundation?
I have already involved my kids in our family’s charitable giving, and I look forward to passing that same purpose to my future grandchildren. For now, though, I’m happy to just have grand-dogs.
