Jennalee McNally, community supporter and charter member of The Women and Girls Fund of The Community Foundation, lived a vibrant 100 years filled with family, work, service and fun. The Jennalee Ritchie McNally Fund for Women and Girls was established after she passed on January 10, 2019. Proceeds from this fund are designated for grantmaking to benefit local girls and women through The Women and Girls Fund of The Community Foundation.
Known as "Dede" to her family and many friends, this dynamic, strong and independent woman is remembered for her generosity, kindness and unceasing love. Jennalee was born to Wilbur and Ethel Ritchie in Bealeton, Virginia on January 3, 1919, the fifth of eight children. Jennalee graduated from Madison College and the University of Virginia with a degree in nursing. She served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Women's Army Corp during WWII, where she met her husband, US Army Colonel William J. "Bill" McNally. Their travels together took them throughout Asia and the United States during his 30-year career in the Army. Jennalee took great pride and satisfaction in working as a nurse and volunteering while also supporting the military and her husband's career. She loved to experience different cultures in each Army post and made life-long friends around the world.
After her husband passed in 1987, Jennalee returned home to Virginia, reuniting with her siblings and immersing in the Fredericksburg community. She loved spending time with her friends and family, traveling, cooking and entertaining, playing mahjong, gardening and walking miles around downtown Fredericksburg. Jennalee witnessed and fully participated in an active century of life. She lived to make the most of every day.
About Designated Funds
A Designated Fund enables a donor to invest in the precise cause or community issues that they care most about.
When you set up a Designated Fund with the foundation, you define its specific charitable purpose, even its beneficiaries, at the fund’s inception. Designated Funds are strongly focused: once you have thoughtfully determined the way you want to structure your fund, grants will be distributed in perpetuity.
The Community Foundation administers the fund without significant change based on the donor's initial instructions. When a grant is made, the foundation monitors how the funds are used to ensure that the use fulfills your charitable goals.
