$60,000 in Emergency Grants Awarded to Local Support Organizations
Fredericksburg, VA — In response to the rising challenges of food insecurity caused by recent reductions in SNAP and food benefit program funding, the Community Foundation has announced emergency grants totaling $60,000 to strengthen local hunger relief efforts.
The Foundation’s Executive Committee and Board of Governors approved $50,000 for the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank and $10,000 for SERVE, two cornerstone organizations working daily to ensure families across the region have access to nutritious food and essential support.
“Food insecurity is a growing concern in our community,” said Jamee Rodgers, CEO of the Community Foundation. “With recent funding changes, many of our neighbors are struggling to meet basic needs. As a Foundation, we’re committed to stepping in quickly — and thanks to our donors, we can.”
The Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank provides nutritious food to more than 51,000 individuals across the Central Rappahannock River Region through a network of 200 partners and 270 programs. In 2024 alone, the Food Bank distributed more than 8.8 million pounds of food — the equivalent of 7.4 million meals.
SERVE, which has supported children and families since 1979, provides emergency food, resources, and programs that uplift families across Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George Counties, and the City of Fredericksburg.
“Our mission has always been about neighbors helping neighbors,” said Kimberly Young, Chair of the Community Foundation’s Board of Governors. “These grants reflect that spirit. When we work together — donors, nonprofits and community partners — we create real and immediate impact.”
The Community Foundation encourages residents to donate to the Foundation’s Community Relief Fund, which enables rapid, flexible response in times of community crisis. Contributions to the Community Relief Fund support a wide range of local needs, including emergency relief, hunger assistance, youth programs, and more.
