The Community Scholarship Fund

In September 2021, The Community Foundation’s Board of Governors established The Community Scholarship Fund. This new scholarship fund will provide opportunities to area students who face challenges accessing higher education by providing general scholarships based on need, without a particular designation. Beginning in the 2021-2022 scholarship cycle, graduating high school seniors from Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline and King George with financial need, or for whom other barriers to education exist, will be eligible for awards.

The Community Foundation believes that investing in our youth is investing in our community’s success and pivotal to the lives of students today and to our collective future. The United States Census Bureau’s Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) indicates that 8.9% of students (ages 5 to 17) in our region live in poverty without the necessary means to be successful. The Community Scholarship Fund is an opportunity for our community to collectively contribute to the furtherment of our student’s education.

About Scholarship Funds

Donors help area students achieve their dreams by establishing or contributing to a scholarship fund at The Community Foundation. Scholarship funds are flexible and can be structured to benefit students at any education level, or for a specific institution. Donors often use scholarship funds to honor or memorialize a loved one.

Donors maintain an active voice in the student selection process while they rely upon The Community Foundation’s Scholarship Committee to handle the necessary paperwork and ensure that scholarships are distributed equitably.

Let us help you create the fund that works best for your charitable giving goals!

How to Apply

The online application portal will walk students through our application process.

  • Students submit general information such as address and high school, as well as information about extracurricular activities or awards.
  • Students use the online application to provide the name and email address of their guidance counselor and other individuals. These contacts will receive an email requesting the student’s high school transcript or a personal reference.
