The O’Neill Fund for the Stewardship of Historic Resources champions and protects the places that tell the stories of our community’s past. The history of the greater Fredericksburg area is vitally important to the people who live here and just as significant to Virginia, to the United States and to the world. Historic preservation has proven economic, environmental, and social benefits. Studies show that historic districts maintain higher property values, less population decline and more walkability.

Established in June 2015, this fund will enhance our sense of community by protecting the memories of people, places, and events that make up our local heritage. Specifically, the fund will support efforts to preserve local historic resources. Grant funded strategies may include, but are not limited to: building or landscape rehabilitation efforts, conservation of historic resources, work to stabilize and protect threatened buildings or artifacts, restoration and reconstruction.
