The Crittenden R. Sullivan, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is in memory of Crittenden “Crit” R. Sullivan, Jr., a lifelong resident of the Fredericksburg area, and a 1953 graduate of James Monroe High School. Crit was very highly regarded by his many friends and business associates for his work ethic, character, integrity, community service, and strong commitment to humanity. Crittenden R. Sullivan, Jr. was born during the period between the Great Depression and World War II to a family of modest means. He possessed a determined work ethic and a strong sense of values. In addition to working the equivalent of a full time job during high school, he also played varsity football for all four years. Crit was blessed with an inherent talent to build with wood, brick and mortar. As a young man endowed with these talents, combined with his education from James Monroe High School, he began his career in the local building industry.
Today it is difficult to drive down the streets of Fredericksburg, Stafford, and Spotsylvania, and not pass a house, commercial building, or other structure that was built with his hands.
This scholarship is intended to encourage other individuals with similar independent spirits and work ethic to fulfill their aspirations by assisting in their completion of any vocational/technical or college program, which results in a degree or certificate.
