[FREDERICKSBURG, VA] – The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region is inviting area nonprofits to apply for the 2025 Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) Grant — a $10,000 award that will be decided and distributed by local high school students.

Each year, members of the Community Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program — a group of over 40 student leaders from across the region — select one nonprofit whose work meaningfully impacts young people. Eligible nonprofits are those that serve youth or are youth lead. Grants must be for projects led by youth, actively involve youth in their implementation, or directly serve or benefit youth.

In FY25, the YIP cohort awarded its $10,000 grant to Loisann’s Hope House for their innovative project “Youth-Centered Spaces: Play, Privacy, and Potential.”

The deadline to apply is July 30, 2025.

About Youth in Philanthropy (YIP)

Founded by The Community Foundation in 2005, Youth in Philanthropy is both an endowment fund and a student leadership program. YIP gives local high school students hands-on experience in philanthropy by tasking them with reviewing grant proposals, conducting site visits, managing budgets, and recommending funding for impactful youth-related initiatives.

Each fall, students from Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline counties come together to tackle real issues — including mental health, homelessness, violence prevention, and youth access to resources. Since its inception, YIP has:

  • Engaged more than 300 students

  • Awarded over 100 grants

  • Disbursed more than $200,000 to youth-focused programs across the region

Students: Want to Join YIP?

YIP is currently accepting student applications for the upcoming session. High school students in grades 10–12 who want to lead, serve, and make a difference are encouraged to apply.
