The Ars Moriendi Services Fund

Death is a journey every person will face, yet many individuals and families must navigate it without the resources, support, or care they need. The Ars Moriendi Services Fund of The Community Foundation supports the organization's mission to help individuals and families navigate the final path of life's journey with knowledge, comfort, care, and respite.

Ars Moriendi is Latin for "The Art of Dying."  Ars Moriendi Services (AMS) seeks to provide more widely available education to patients, providers, and caregivers about practical management of meeting people’s physical and psychosocial needs, as well as understanding care options. Designed to make critical information accessible to all people, these resources help individuals and families navigate one of life's most significant transitions. Through community outreach, AMS volunteers speak to groups, host or help support groups and other community programs such as “Death Cafes,” to help normalize conversations around death.

The Fredericksburg area currently lacks a residential hospice home for individuals who can no longer receive hospice care at home. AMS is working to address this need by opening a residential hospice home that provides compassionate end-of-life care regardless of a person's financial circumstances.

Through The Ars Moriendi Services Fund, our community will help ensure that compassionate end-of-life care, education, and support are more widely available to all who need them.
