The Fredericksburg Regional SPCA Endowment Fund

Stu Gordon adored the SPCA. The long-serving volunteer regularly arrived at the humane organization and asked, “What do you need today?” He would do laundry or sit with cats, in fact there was nothing the long-serving volunteer would not do.

Although it was unexpected, it was not surprising that Fredericksburg Regional SPCA was notified of a bequest gift to their organization from Mr. Gordon’s estate when he passed away.

Having worked with The Community Foundation over the years, the SPCA’s Executive Director and Board knew that an endowed agency fund at the foundation was an ideal way to honor his legacy and remember his love and service.

The nonprofit organization intends for proceeds from the new Fredericksburg Regional SPCA Endowment Fund primarily to support two of their most important programs:

  • The Community Medical Center, which opened its doors in October 2018, aims to provide low cost spay and neuter services. Conditions such as kennel cough can also be treated, relieving animal suffering. Preventive services such as heartworm testing and vaccination will also be supported through the fund.
  • The People Empowered through Support (PETS) program was designed to intervene when an individual or family might otherwise have to relinquish a pet due to financial or other hardships. When a pet owner in crisis cannot afford pet food, behavioral intervention or medical care, PETS can provide assistance.

The Community Foundation is a devoted advocate for the vitality and well-being of the Rappahannock River region. Our mission is to build a flourishing philanthropic community. One of the ways we accomplish our mission is to provide support of various types to other nonprofit organizations.

An agency fund is a safe and simple way for a nonprofit organization to invest in its future. Area nonprofits establish agency endowments as a way to strengthen and grow fundraising efforts and to ensure permanent operating or program support. The Community Foundation assumes the challenges of endowed fund management for participating charity organizations, enabling them to fully concentrate on their mission.
