The Hilldrup Move-Up Charitable Fund
Hilldrup has been a part of the Fredericksburg community since 1903. Over the past few decades, they’ve supported the community and The Community Foundation, and now are making that support even more tangible in the form of the new Hilldrup Move-Up Fund.
CEO and President, Charles W McDaniel, saw an article in The Free Lance-Star in 2018 about a family who lost their home all because of a series of bad luck. Hilldrup and Charles had been looking to support a larger cause in the area where the company could truly make a difference in the community, and this article resonated. Working with the Community Foundation, Hilldrup reviewed options for helping area families move up in times of need.
Hilldrup is more than just a moving company – they understand they are moving people’s lives from one place to another, and a move can be just the first of many changes in a person’s life. Through the Hilldrup Move Up Fund, the company wants to help people move up into a more favorable situation so that they can begin other changes positive changes in their lives. They want to empower those people and families to hope for and expect better in their life, starting with a move up. The hope is that grants from the fund can provide a stepping stone to an even better future for people in need and their families.
The Hilldrup Move-Up Fund will provide support through several local nonprofit organizations that serve families who have housing needs but don’t have the resources available to address critical issues. Working with The Community Foundation and community nonprofit partners, Hilldrup will identify families who: are in a situation where funding would make a significant difference in the family’s life, where the funding or support provided will solve a problem of urgent or immediate need, or where funding will help the family maintain secure housing.
Hilldrup has a strong history of giving back, and each of their 10 branches has causes near and dear to them in the communities where they operate.
One of the six core Hilldrup values is Uncompromised Integrity, and employees are encouraged to do the right thing, even when no one is watching.
"Supporting the communities that support us is an important aspect of that and one in which we are proud to take part. We owe our success to the health and prosperity of the people and organizations around us."
Donor Advised Funds provide a simple, powerful and very personal approach to giving. Donors stay actively involved in suggesting uses for their gifts. Donors can recommend charities to support at any time during the year, or work with foundation staff to identify which community nonprofits are doing the best work on the issues most important to the donor.
