The William J. (Bill) Evans Memorial Fund
No surprise that someone who rose to the ranks of Eagle Scout himself would be involved in his community and ultimately honored through giving back to local kids. William James "Bill" Evans III was the type of person who would pitch in. Rolling up his sleeves to help the James Monroe High School students with a float when his own daughters attended or assisting sponsoring a car in the Soap Box Derby.
He loved family and valued friendships from Burlington, N.C. where he grew up to Fredericksburg where he settled. In 1991 Bill founded Virginia Cabinet Supply. He was active in town supporting Ducks Unlimited and Boy Scouts while serving on the Parks and Recreation Board and Industrial Development Authority. He was proud to support the start of the current Doris E. Buffet Pool at Dixon Park with his fellow Parks and Recreation members. Evans grew up in the Methodist Church and joined the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church where he served in many roles formal and fun. When someone was needed to run the sound system at church he moved up to the balcony and learned by doing because it needed to be done.
Carol, his wife of 41 years, along with their daughters, Katie Houser and Caroline Dunavant, established this fund to honor the community and causes he loved so dearly. The family has a long tradition of giving to community foundations including Bill and Carol establishing a fund for her father and scholarship funds for others. Carol appreciates that this fund is, “flexible” addressing the needs of local youth. This fund supports community outreach by the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church and youth-development programs.
