Working Together for Our Community - The Community Relief Fund
It's more important than it has ever been for us to work together for our region. That's why The Community Foundation activated The Community Relief Fund.
Our region is preparing for a surge in COVID-19 patients. At the same time, local nonprofit organizations are preparing for a surge in new people who need the services they offer.
- Shelters are helping homeless people find appropriate places to quarantine.
- Advocates for people with disabilities are providing more care and support than ever.
- Legal aid workers are preparing for an influx of applications from newly homeless renters once the current 21-day moratorium on evictions is lifted.
- Child abuse and domestic violence advocates are concerned about increases in crimes that take place at home.
- Food pantries and feeding ministries are seeing more clients than ever before.
At the same time, the spring fundraisers that help sustain many organizations have been cancelled and dedicated volunteers are unable to work as effectively due to gathering restrictions.
Our community's needs are immediate, evolving and certain to extend well into the future.
The Community Relief Fund is a vital tool to help ensure that our nonprofit safety net can weather this storm.
The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region activated The Community Relief Fund on March 18th with an initial allocation of $55,000.
The Community Relief Fund was established in October 2019 to prepare for any possible future disaster threat to our community. When the significant impact of the coronavirus pandemic in our community became clear, especially for vulnerable people, the Board of Governors directed foundation staff to activate the Community Relief Fund. The foundation is now assessing needs in our community and actively securing funding support.
The Community Foundation is a trusted charitable giving advisor providing leadership, stewardship and leverage for a broad range of issues and causes for over 20 years.
The foundation has capabilities that can reduce the severity of this crisis on our community. We know our community, we can work with nonprofit partners effectively, we have the experience, reputation, and the flexibility to deliver grant funds where they matter most.
We are eager to put these capabilities to work for the region we all love.
We look forward to sharing more with you about our community's work to meet needs during this crisis. Visit our website and social media (links below) for specific needs in our community and gifts to meet those needs.
