Youth in Philanthropy: YIP Alumnus Nick D’Addio
“In Youth and Philanthropy, I felt privileged to be trusted to allocate grant funds to some of the best causes in the region, especially as a junior and senior in high school. It made me feel like I had a hand in growing and improving the town where I grew up.
My experiences in YIP made me realize that privilege and opportunity come with the ability to fill gaps in the lives of others. Youth in Philanthropy gave impetus to my Peace Corps dream a few years later.
Today, I am Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand. I am an English teacher for about 120 first through sixth graders and I co-teach with a team of five Thai counterparts. My job is to make the learning environment dynamic, inclusive, and student-centered by implementing stronger teaching methods.
After my service, I hope to leave behind a lasting appreciation of English learning and five motivated, well-equipped English teachers.”
