FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Community Foundation is proud to announce the distribution of more than $235,000 in scholarships this year to students throughout the greater Fredericksburg region. These awards are made possible through the generosity of donors and the stewardship of 54 unique scholarship funds that support a wide range of academic, career, and personal aspirations.
The 2025 scholarship recipients will be celebrated during a Scholarship Reception on Saturday, June 8, at Stevenson Ridge, where students and their families will gather to meet fund representatives, community members, and Foundation leadership. The event will honor the achievements of the students and the enduring legacies of those who created the funds in memory or celebration of loved ones.
“This is one of the most inspiring times of the year,” said Sharon Schmidt, President of The Community Foundation. “Each scholarship we award represents a deeply personal story—of hope, resilience, generosity, and commitment to the next generation. At The Community Foundation, we believe that supporting education is one of the greatest investments we can make in our community’s future.”

The Community Foundation’s scholarships are as diverse as the students they support. Some funds focus on academic excellence and leadership, while others emphasize service, overcoming adversity, or pursuing vocational and technical education. Together, they reflect the values and vision of families, businesses, and civic leaders who care deeply about educational opportunity.
A Regional Impact
Scholarships are awarded to students from the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and surrounding localities. Many of the funds offer renewable support, ensuring students can continue receiving aid through multiple years of post-secondary education.
“This program helps unlock potential,” added Schmidt. “We’re not just sending students to school—we’re opening doors, uplifting families, and honoring values that matter deeply to our region.”
